Building Update

Just In Case You Missed It

Construction Help

As we talked about today, there is an opportunity for adults in our church to help to the “demo” work and clean-up at the new building for the next few weeks.  If you can come help for a few hours (or more), here’s some info…

Monday January 25 – 12pm – 5 pm
Tuesday January 26 – 1pm – 8 pm
Wednesday January 27 – 10am – 6pm
Thursday January 28 – 1pm – 8pm
Friday January 29 – 1pm – 8pm
Saturday January 30 – 8am – 2pm

Just a reminder, please bring gloves because we are cleaning up items that have sharp edges and we want you to be protected. If you have your own hard hat & safety glasses you may want to bring it. We do have hard hats and glasses for those who don’t have their own.

We can use wheel barrows if you have one and can bring it with you.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Vallue Church, Haiti

About 18 months ago, Palm Valley built our first church building.  We decided that instead of building our first building in the west valley, for our own use; it would be a God-thing to build it in Haiti for the use of Vallue Baptist Church. We value our partnership with Pastor Emmanuel and the wonderful people of Vallue.  It was such a joy for me to stand in the pulpit and deliver words of encouragement to this church body just a few months ago.  However, the building partially collapsed last week during the earthquake.  The rest will most likely need to be torn down, and the building rebuilt.  We resolve to stand by our brothers and sisters in Vallue (as well as all our partners in Haiti)!  God will be glorified, and the name of Jesus made known to the people of Haiti!

Helping Opportunities in Haiti

I have heard from so many at Palm Valley who want to involve their schools, community groups or businesses in the Haiti relief efforts.  Here’s a few of the simple ways people can make a difference…

  • Shoes for Haitian people — shoes are being collected at local Sports Chalet stores for distribution in Haiti. More Info Here
  • Medical Supplies — through Haitian Relief Organization of Arizona.  Medical supplies are being collected and will be shipped to Haiti.  Compass Church and Palm Valley Church are collection points for this effort.  Here’s a video from Fox10 on this effort.  Supplies being collected are crutches, slings, medical tape, gauze, absorbent bandages, misc. bandages, antiseptic, alcohol pads, and water treatment tablets.

Weekend Reflections

Wow, I’m completely drained. This weekend at PVC was absolutely incredible, emotional, and rewarding. God was obviously at work in a significant way, challenging us as a church family with what it means to be the body of Christ during crisis. Here’s some thoughts…

  • I wrestled Tuesday night and Wednesday with changing the message and dealing with the Haiti crisis. I really felt God was leading me to speak into this; so glad I listened to Him.
  • We asked the question “Why?”.  Ultimately, we’ll never know why this side of heaven, but 3 things we do know…
    • We live in a fallen world, so we will have crisis.
    • We have a mission, so we must respond.
    • We have a loving Father, so we can trust Him!
  • The worship music was incredible. Thanks to Derrick and the team for putting their heart into it!
  • Sean went way beyond the call to put together all the special elements for this weekend. From print, to web, to video in service, he did it all in 2 days.
  • The people of PVC have truly wrapped their hearts around our ministry partners in Haiti. I could sense a great empathy in our body for the people of Haiti.
  • Right before the 8:30 service this morning, we heard from Joaquin in Haiti.  He tells us the pastors are discouraged and hurting as they minister to the people.
  • 70 pastors in the Haitian Baptist Association died in the quake.
  • Praying hard today for Maison Des Anges, the orphanage run by Gladys. 80 kids displaced, running out of food and water.
  • Haiti Arise is a partner in Petit Goave, the technical school was damaged.
  • The ministry center in Petit Goave collapsed. Pastor Franklin escaped with minor injuries.
  • Our church building in Value is destroyed. Pastor Emmanuel is okay.

No word yet from Julien. Praying for them tonight!

I was deeply moved by people leaving their shoes today, walking out barefoot. Not only did they provide shoes for Haitians, they identified with them by walking home barefoot.  Hundreds of pairs of shoes were left on the stage; don’t think I’ve ever seen such a beautiful altar!
